This class is supported by a grant from the Oregon Dept of Transportation/DMV Traffic Safety Office to strengthen the care provided by emergency responders to vehicle crash victims on rural/frontier Oregon roadways. From this emergency responder training, participants are better prepared to provide emergency care to victims of road crashes; reduce vehicle crash scene times; and support the EMS work force by acquiring CE that is applicable to maintaining their EMS licenses!

QUALIFICATIONS

ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO COMMIT TO TRAVEL TO RURAL/FRONTIER AREAS OF OREGON TO PROVIDE MOULAGE AT TRAINING EVENTS CAN REGISTER WITH THE GRANT-SUPPORTED COURSE FEE. Anyone that does not meet that criteria can contact us regarding an alternate fee arrangement to participate.

Course Description

This 2-day interactive workshop is designed to enhance realism in simulation scenarios while providing best practice techniques. As an intensive, hands-on, 16 hour course, it will be presented in a multi-level learner approach including scenario staging, sensory engagement, core STEPS and technique, accessory moulage, wound development, storage recommendations, and time and money saving alternatives for standardized patient.

Instructor: Courtney Yan, moulage artist, Cascadia Moulage Volunteer Coordinator

PURPOSE

Moulage Artists are crucial to support the training of emergency responders that care for victims of rural/frontier roadway crashes. This course is intended meet that need. Through funding from ODOT/DMV-TSO, the Oregon EMS Education Foundation teams with the Oregon EMS Association to deliver nationally accredited continuing education. We are striving to establish a network of moulage artists that are in rural areas, and/or will commit to travel to such locations.

HOST

CASCADIA MOULAGE

Cascadia Moulage Website

Cascadia Moulage is a non-profit organization offering moulage services throughout Oregon and SW Washington. We began in 2003 as a multi-agency, UASI-funded project based in the Portland Metro Region. Over the years, our network has grown to over 100 trained moulage artists including community volunteers, makeup artists and experienced medical professionals.

Moulage is not for the weak of heart! It's a demanding skill set with early, long hours in some rather primitive settings. But our 'victims' seem to really enjoy the creativity, and the emergency trainees can't say enough about how much they benefit from learning to manage 'real life' scenarios.

COST: $100 (Grant supported fee)

Advanced kits can be purchased for $100 or $200 as shown below in addition to the course fee. You can order them when registering and receive them at the class. A second option is to wait until you are at the class and order them there to have shipped.

  • Included: Makeup bag with samples of key supplies.
  • $100: Individual kit - Small tackle box with small quantities of most common supplies used to simulate most injuries. Suitable as a basic kit for individual artists.
  • $200: Team kit - Carrying case with medium quantities of most common supplies used to simulate most injuries plus examples of premium supplies. Suitable for multiple small team deployments.

We are looking for host sites to hold grant funded classes, particularly in rural/frontier areas. Courses we can deliver under the ODOT/DMV-TSO grant are PHTLS and Passenger Vehicle Extrication Technician. Anyone with interest should contact us.
