This class is supported by a grant from the Oregon Dept of Transportation/DMV Traffic Safety Office to strengthen the care provided by emergency responders to vehicle crash victims on rural/frontier Oregon roadways. From this emergency responder training, participants are better prepared to provide emergency care to victims of road crashes; reduce vehicle crash scene times; and support the EMS work force by acquiring CE that is applicable to maintaining their EMS licenses!
ONLY EMS AND MEDICAL PROVIDERS THAT CARE FOR VICTIMS OF ROADWAY CRASHES IN RURAL/FRONTIER AREAS OF OREGON CAN REGISTER WITH THE GRANT-SUPPORTED COURSE FEE. Anyone that does not meet that criteria can contact us regarding an alternate fee arrangement to participate.
This is the new 10th edition course. The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care. PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program. PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook.
Hybrid Provider Course: 16-hour course for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians and other prehospital providers. Online learning modules provide 8 hours of CE, followed by the in-person class with skills and scenarios for another 8 hours. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion, a wallet card recognizing them as PHTLS providers for 4 years, and 16 hours of CAPCE credit.
The NAEMT requires participants to have the current 10th edition PHTLS Provider main textbook & Course Manual. They are shipped to all participants that complete the registration process. The text is helpful for pre-course study and the post-test. The text includes an access code to complete the online modules.
